Wonder Girls is back! *throws confetti*
To start with, I am not a Wonderful (a term coined for the Wonder Girls' fans), but I admit that these young and talented girls are pretty amazing from the get go. Labeled as "Korea's Little Sisters," they have indeed come a long way ever since their debut in 2007. It has been a while since "the Wonder Girls' frenzy" swept the town (Anybody here who remembers how many people got addicted to Nobody the moment it hit the airwaves? Haha!). But even before the sensation that was Nobody, the Wonder Girls already captured the heart and the attention of many fans because of the cute and refreshing image that they portrayed during their earlier hit tracks, So Hot and Tell Me.
We all know that the girls have been attempting to break through the American music market for quite some time now, and although a lot of people say that these girls have failed in their quest, the members were quick in rebutting that they have yet to make their official US debut with this album. And so, after their comeback with 2 Different Tears last year, they have returned once again to show their latest material to music aficionados all over the world with their latest album, Wonder World.
The music video to their title track, Be My Baby, was just revealed today and, as early as now, I have already played it on repeat. The song is catchy and it is very JYPE (if you know what I'm talking about). It reminds me so much of miss A's songs (another JYP Entertainment girl group who debuted later than them) and it surprised me because it's something new for the Wonder Girls, but they managed to make the song their own and to rock with with their raw telent. I musth've gotten used to seeing the Wonder Girls with their cutesy image while singing their retro-inspired songs on TV with matching hairdos and glittery costumes, so this is somethings that I wasn't expecting. On the other hand, I though that they would go for a more fierce image this time (as what I saw from their previous "femme fatale" video teasers) but, then again, teasers in general often deceive, and I've been deceived many times, so I won't be ranting about it anymore. LOL! Since they are growing up and maturing, it's a relief that they have chosen a mature image and sound that fits them to a T for their comeback. They are still the Wonder Girls, but more confident and gorgeous this time.
I'm just glad that they have choosen a good title track for their comeback. I must give it to JYP and, of course, the girls for a job well done! This is perhaps that biggest strength that lies with the label: They know the strengths and weaknesses of their artists, so instead of using heavy autotune, they focus on what their singers do best in order to make them shine vocally. I like how the members have equally divided parts during the entire song, that each of them shined, and that Sohee is singing a lot of lines this time. Needless to say, I am impressed. I am looking forward to listen to the rest of the songs in this album in the coming days. Just by listening to the title track of the album itself, I know that this song will achieve an all-kill in music charts, offline or online, pretty soon. With that said, I wish the Wonder Girls all the best for their latest comeback (and their upcoming movie) this time around.
