Who am I? I am a screwed-up blogger and an active blog reader since 2007. A soulful dreamer who believes that passion is life and a person who is looking for meaning, just like any other human being in this world. A super girl wannabe who is currently taking chances and chasing pavements, while keeping up with time and living life in general. This is me, and this blog is the outlet of my random thoughts. • Asian Dramas to Look Out For this Summer
    Monday, June 27, 2011 @ 12:25 PM | comment (0)

I must admit, I've been hiding in dramalandia these past few weeks because of the "Summer Asian Drama Extravaganza," which is something I made up myself to justify my hiatus in my beloved three linked blogs in cyberworld. I know I've been away too long and I have not posted much, but I am certain that drama fans like me would understand my absence because of the all of wonderful dramas airing altogether at the moment. And as much as I would like to squeeze in even a few minutes of sleep after I get home, my mind unconsciously tells me to grab my laptop and press the power button. Creepy, isn't it? But I think it's better that way. So that I won't miss the awesomeness that all the Summer dramas have to offer!

Well, if you are wondering what this post is all about, it will be a lowdown on the all the upcoming awesome dramas whose trailers have been revealed a few days or weeks ago. Some of them have premiered with episode one already, and some are still on their way to the small screen. These have consumed most, if not all of my time since May started. But it's not like I just began watching dramas this May. Haha! This has been my routine for the last 10 years or so. But I believe I'm not the only person infected with this virus because everyone in Baidu, DC, and other Asian drama forums says so. (What a relief! ^  ^)

Seeing the slew of dramas that are yet to premiere in the coming weeks and months, plus the line-up of the actors and actresses confirmed for each makes me pity myself, my health, and my over-all well-being. :D As early as now, I am sure that I won't get that much sleep for the benefit of satisfying myself and my alter ego. The dramas are screaming for my name and I cannot resist the urge of running away, so drama camping resumes for the time being, and poor me has to endure before I raise the white flag and retreat back to reality.

    HEARTSTRINGS

This is Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye's reunion project after starring in the uber opular You're Beautiful last 2009. It was also a well-written masterpiece by the Hong Sisters who also wrote the recently concluded drama Best Love starring Cha Seung Won and Gong Hyo Jin. Two years ago in You're BeautifulShin Hye played the role of clumsy yet adorable Mi Nam who was forced to join an all-male band just to save her twin brother, while Yong Hwa played the role of the prince-like Shin Woo who was one of my favorite characters in the drama. (My heart always goes out to all the second male leads who gets their hearts broken when they don't get the girl in the end. Tsk!) He was her knight in shinning armor, and he took care of her all throughout, but they didn't get the ending that they deserved. Poor Yong Hwa had to witness someone steal his girl away from his back. But not now, because this time, it'll surely be the two of them until the end.

Their new project together is a college melodrama that will revolve around music, which is entitled Heartstrings (otherwise titled You've Fallen For Me or You're Into Me). Yong Hwa will play the role of playboy rocker Lee Shin who will meet Shin Hye's model student character who is the total opposite of him. She will be Lee Kyu Won, the bubbly and adorable student who is also a good gayageum (traditional Korean musical instrument) player. Other characters who have been confirmed for this drama include Yong Hwa's fellow CNBLUE band mate, Kang Min Hyuk, who is my bias in CNBLUE.

As early as now, I am already anticipating for this one. Why? Because it's Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye. And I love them both! I love their chemistry, and I am sure that I will be delighted when I will see the series premiere. You're Beautiful was a really cute drama, so I am certain that Yong Hwa and Shin Hye won't disappoint me this time. Their pairing is something that I have already proven effective, so I hope that their new drama touches a lot of hearts when it finally airs. On a side note, I heard that SNSD's pretty maknae Seohyun and Jang Geun Suk have given their blessings to both of them to do well for this drama so their other OTPs should be fine about them. Haha! (Seohyun was recently with Super Junior's evil maknae Kyuhyun in Paris, singing Way Back Into Love, while Geun Suk is recently shooting for the upcoming flick You're My Pet with Kim Ha Neul). So check out the trailer below!

Don't they look cute together? Hahaha! XD

    EXTRAVAGANT CHALLENGE

From a Korean drama, let's move on to a Taiwanese drama. I must admit most TW dramas are so sugar coated, but we love them anyway, so that won't be a problem! This year alone, I have watched about five TW dramas and my favorite ones have to be Mike He and Janine Chang's Sunny Happiness, and Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang's Drunken To Love You. Both dramas are really good, but I haven't really found a new drama to lurk on after these two. However, Extravagant Challenge looks really good, and it's as promising as it is. It stars two of my biases in Asian pop to date, and they are Super Junior's Siwon and Donghae.

Some of my friends are die-hard fans of the manga and they ask me updates on the drama from time to time so I tell them this and that, plus I always keep blabbering about Siwon and Donghae and they're like, "Hey! What are those Korean boy group members are doing in a Taiwanese drama?" So when they forget, I remind them that they happen to be the lead actors and they just shut up. Haha! End of story. I am not particularly fond of reading Japanese mangas because of I still find Japanese quite difficult compared to Korean or Chinese. I love the culture and the fashion of the country though, and I really want to get there in two or three years time, so I am working on my Hanji during spare days.

Going back to the drama, Donghae plays the role of Sho Fuwa, the aspiring singer who uses his girl friend, Kyoko Mogami, to be played by Ivy Chen (one of my favorite TW actresses) just to reach the top. She will then be plotting revenge by joining the entertainment industry to bring down her ex's career, and along the way, she will meet Siwon who will play the character of Ren Tsuruga. Another TW actress in the person of Bianca Bai will be rounding off the main cast as Kyoko's best friend.

This drama, I believe, is one of the most anticipated TW dramas in recent years. The lead roles were originally assigned to Asian superstar and former F4 now JVKV member Jerry Yan and TW actress Ariel Lin, who rose to stardom in Asia from It Started With A Kiss and its sequel, They Kissed Again. Somehow, that did not transpire. After years, the drama finally landed to the hands of Super Junior members Siwon and Donghae, and I'm glad it did. This drama needs the magic touch of the two. And as early as now, I already think that this will be a major hit within the Asian region because it's Siwon and Donghae!

I have faith with the director, the scriptwriter, the actors and actresses, and the drama itself! The manga, according to many, was really a good read, so I am expecting of nothing but awesomeness from this soon to premiere drama, which is set to air within the year. I am loving Ivy Chen in it! And I am glad that she replaced Ariel because she fits the character so well. Loved her since she did Black and White with Vic Zhou, so I know she will give justice to the character of Kyoko Mogami and give life to it in a wonderful way. Donghae is also rocking the badass look! (Oh boy, am I the only one who thinks he looks hot in that eyeliner?) I am more convinced day after day that he is indeed the perfectly casted for Sho's character because I can see the angst. The emotion is just there! And yes, he's full of SWAG! I love the new Donghae! So I just can't wait to see this drama. Here's the trailer below!

    BEAUTIFUL SPY

Now, here's what I call an IRIS spin-off with a twist of romance and comedy! LOL! Otherwise titled Spy Myung Wol, this up and coming drama stars former Shinhwa charismatic leader Eric Moon, and A-list Korean actress Han Ye Seul who are both coming back after years of being away from the small screen. It has been years indeed since I last saw Eric, so I am excited for his return. I have been a fan of Shinhwa too, and they are one of my favorite first generation idol groups, so I will really watch this! And another reason, is of course, Han Ye Seul, who is in my long list of favorite Korean actresses. I love her and I love her personality! She was really good back then in Fantasy Couple, and she is skilled in so many languages that I just stare at her when she does an interview and speaks fluently in all of them.

While the overused plot of "spies sent from North Korea" is being used again for the nth time, I must say that this time, it is entirely different because we have a badass female lead trying to woo a Hallyu star. In this drama, Ye Seul will play the role of a North Korean spy named Myung Wol who was sent on a secret mission to let the Korean Wave (Hallyu Wave) star Kang Woo, a role that will be played by Eric, to fall for her. Doesn't the story look amusing? It does, right? And I have been keeping an eye on this as early as now. Drama Gods have been really very generous for premiering so many dramas these days, the problem is just the time. The time to watch all of them, since it takes time to digest the dialouges of Asian dramas especially if there are no subtitles.

I like the fact that Han Ye Seul chose a character that can kickass for her comeback project, and I love it even more that Eric is playing the role of "Mr.Charisma" because he has loads of it to show! Han Ye Seul definitely excudes a breathtaking kind of charm to viewers with her spontaneous and free-spirited characters that are sometimes indecisive and out of the box, and yet very entertaining. Eric on the other hand is just so irresistible as the proud Kang Woo, which makes him more convincing as an actor all the more! It's surely romance overload + craziness when this premieres, so check out the teaser below!

More dramas coming soon!!! Have a wonderful day everyone! xxx
