Who am I? I am a screwed-up blogger and an active blog reader since 2007. A soulful dreamer who believes that passion is life and a person who is looking for meaning, just like any other human being in this world. A super girl wannabe who is currently taking chances and chasing pavements, while keeping up with time and living life in general. This is me, and this blog is the outlet of my random thoughts. • Relieving the moments of Kim Bum and Kim So Eun
    Sunday, May 24, 2009 @ 5:16 PM | comment (0)

He dates every pretty girl in town. He has them wrapped around his finger. He changes girlfriends in just a snap of a finger. He dumps girls as fast as the blink of an eye. He's the guy you would care less about. The one you'd probably want to hate for as long as you live. The player. The idiot. The heartbreaker. But then, he smiles like the stars in the sky. When he looks at you, he puts you in the center of the world wherein nothing seems to matter more than you and him both. With just a glance, you feel like you're in another world - despite distance, space and time. That's how it feels with him around. He's someone so near; yet so far. The boy you love to hate, who at the same time holds your heart for some reason. And you do just about anything to put back the missing pieces of his broken past. Even if it means, hurting yourself. Even the slightest affection coming from that person, is tantamount to a spark of hope in your grasp. Your strong inclination for that person, is the lamest excuse you can ever think of, everytime you feel like there's no point in waiting. In hoping. In yearning for something you were never sure from the very start. HIS LOVE.

This was Kim Bum a.k.a. SO YI JEONG and Kim So Eun's (a.k.a CHU GA EUL) complicated sub-lovestory in the series, "BOYS OVER FLOWERS". The push and pull build-up between their story got me hooked since episode 5. I knew from that point, something was about to come up. True enough, the production team worked on the series even better. Although a thing going on between a womanizer slash playboy with a kind-hearted slash nice girl is overrated, Kim Bum and Kim So Eun's story in Boys Over Flowers managed to step out of the shadows, to create this magical little world that there's a possibilty for two very different people to end up together when the story ends, even though chances are slim. It was nice to see So Yi Jeong (Kim Bum's character name) who has 3 rules in dating women and Chu Ga Eul (Kim So Eun's character name) who wanted nothing but to make the guy he likes to realize that she was just there, waiting for him to come to his senses that she was the one. And in the end, it was just that.

I just finished watching the series (Boys Over Flowers), and I'd say it was good. The Korean adaptation was interesting in a sense that they were able to develop the plot out of the original manga, Hana Yori Dango, and create a totally different yet unique atmosphere that sets out of the 3 other versions that were done in the past. Meteor Garden (the Taiwanese version) was filmed 8 years ago in 2001, and Hana Yori Dango (the same titled Japanese version) came out 6 years after in 2007. The big fans of the manga were delighted to see how the story evolved in a different way, one adaptation after the other, keeping the consistency of the original plot. During the course of watching the series, whenever I felt that the mighty triangle between the three ultimate leads: Go Jun Pyo (Lee Min Ho), Geum Jan Di (Koo Hye Sun) and Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong) was taking forever, the light-hearted little story between Yi Jeong and Ga Eul became an alternative to look out for. What immediately caught my attention during the 5th episode was Kim Bum and Kim So Eun’s supporting plot. I immediately remembered that I was disappointed way back when Rainie Yang Cheng Lin (Xiao Yu) had to leave Ken Zhu Xiao Tian (Xi Men) because of her family’s financial issues. It was a good thing that the story ended better this time. It was a relief when I learned that Yi Jeong will not be alone at the end.

Even if they had contrasting personalities, I was able to notice 3 common similarities among the two. One, they were both into pottery. Yi Jeong's passion for forming clays made Ga Eul want to try it too. Two, both of them are friends (to Jun Pyo and Jan Di) who would try to do anything just to make their friends happy, even if it meant they had to sacrifice a little and take things a little further, when they had to fake a date just to get them together. And lastly, they both believe in soulmates. Despite the playboy image, Yi Jeong had faith in love too — just like Ga Eul. After finishing the 25th episode today, I think I should enlist myself in the onscreen couple’s growing fan base. Haha! :)

As new faces in the Korean showbiz industry, both of them struggled to get good breaks in dramas, commercials and films, before they landed their respective roles in Boys Over Flowers. Kim So Eun started out modelling for her photographer mom in 2005. She participated in a couple of projects like “Sad Love Story” (2005) and “Empress Chun Chu” recently. This year, fans are expecting see more of her, both in TV dramas and films. She has a new movie coming up, and she's currently filming a new series called "The Man Who Can't Get Married'. Kim Bum on the other hand got a role in the hit series, “East of Eden” as the young Sung Seong Heon (the lead actor of the series) before the production team decided to cast him as one of F4’s members. He was recently casted in a lead role for the up and coming TV series, “Dreams”. I heard he works out really hard because the series will show a more mature Kim Bum this time, and that means the meat in his bones literally.

Going back to Boys Over Flowers, when the announcement was made on the line-up of the cast, both of them were surprised when they learned that they were in. It came as a surprise to fans, bloggers and netizens in Korea when they learned that the two are good friends in real life. Both of them are film majors in Chung-Hwa University, and they’ve been classmates ever since. The effortless radiance of Kim So Eun and the undeniable charisma of Kim Bum was definitely a good combination, and in the end, it produced good results. I think it’s because they look good together, and they have this enthralling chemistry.

Before the series kicked off, and even now that it’s done, the two have managed to remain in close contact with each other, just like normal friends, despite their busy schedules. Kim Bum reportedly said in an interview that they continuously text and e-mail each other, and hang out from time to time. Needless to say, they see each other in school too. Kim So Eun also said that just like normal friends who eat together and hang out after school, they help each other catch up missed lessons due to work commitments as well. Kim So Eun says, We are just normal friends in school while we become colleagues at the film set. Compared to other cast members, its easier for us to strike a conversation and that explains our chemistry, I guess. We look out for each other and also crack jokes." Character wise, she chose Go Jun Pyo among all the F4 members when she was asked which character she liked best. She shared that it would be quite troublesome if she dated somebody similar to the character that was played by Yi Jeong in real life because it entailed competing with a handful of girls. After the series, they teamed-up again, but this time in a commercial for Samsung’s latest line of mobile phones, “Anycall”. The CF wa s more of like a continuation to the hanging end of their love story in Boys Over Flowers.

Here are some of my favourite Kim Bum and Kim So Eun moments:

Way to go... I think I'll give them two thumbs up for a job well done. Great chemistry. Good acting. Over-all, a lovely pair. I'd say the casting crew did a good job for having them both for their respective roles. As always, Kim So Eun is glowing and radiant as ever. And Kim Bum, is always dressed to kill and impress. Armed
with the charm and smile that can launch a thousand ships, I just wish these two 19-year-olds, the best of live, love and everything in between.
