The KBS drama Full House, which aired in 2004 and earned much love not only in Korea but throughout Asia, will be producing a season 2 as a pan-Asian drama with participation from Korea, China, Japan and other countries. Full House is the drama that shot Rain to fame throughout Asia as a skilled dancer and singer. Director Park Chang-shik of Kim Jong-hak Productions told Herald Biz on the 24th, “In preparation for making Full House Season 2, writer Jo Jung-hwa has worked for two years. Currently, the scripts for the first four episodes have been completed. Since Korean, Chinese, and Japanese actors will be participating, the drama will be filmed in those countries.” Because this will be produced as an “Asian drama,” plans are to keep the atmosphere lighter than the first series, and to not come off overly extravagant. The drama will span 20 episodes and is looking for an airdate sometime around August of next year. Director Park said, “Things are looking good. Already a Thai corporation has shown interest in investing in Season 2, and one broadcast station in Hunan, China, has said that they would produce Season 2.”
Full House was originally a soonjung manhwa [shojo manga] by Won Soo-yeon that depicted a love story about young modern people, and earned its actors Rain (playing Young-jae) and Song Hye-gyo (as Ji-eun) recognition as a very appealing couple. Recently, Rain was asked on an episode of MBC’s Goldfish [무릎팍도사], “When did you start thinking of expanding into the Asian market?” by MC Kang Ho-dong. His answer reflected Full House’s high Asian popularity, saying, “It wasn’t because of music, but happened to be because of a drama I’d done [Full House],” which showed the bright possibility of a pan-Asian Season 2. Accordingly, if Full House Season 2 is made and broadcast, the actors will naturally attract much recognition in Asia, and will also have tremendous value as a Hallyu drama. Therefore, the production company is determined to cast at least one out of the two stars, Rain and Song Hye-gyo, who enjoy high popularity throughout China as well as Southeast Asia. They plan to cast actors from China and Taiwan as well, but have set aside the initial intention of casting one of the F4 members. The director has not yet been decided, and the production is currently in the process of finding a film or drama PD who will be able to bring to life Full House’s visual appeal.
It's been like almost a year, and fans of the massive hit drama "FULL HOUSE" way back in 2004, that is 5 years ago, starring the one and only Rain, who is dubbed as "Korea's Justin Timberlake", and the equally talented and very beautiful Song Hye Kyo, all over Asia have been really disaapointed for the long wait, and it seems that the sequel for the hallyu series is not happening any time soon. The production have promised a year ago that it will probably start it's production August this year. But August is coming to an end already, and so far, no news about the sequel has been heard. It have watched the drama and I've loved it way back. I really enjoyed watching the drama, and it was in this particular project that I have appreciated both Rain and Song Hye Kyo even more, as actors and actresses. Therefore. it would not be an overstatement to say that it's one of the best Asian dramas I've ever seen. I've seen them both in different projects before "Full House", but it was in this drama that they have received much love from fans all over Asia. I've included comments and responses from different fans all throughout the text in dark red. Credits to dramabeans.
" i think they said this before too.. waahh..
and it sounds weird that they’d have only one of the two..
then it wouldnt be full house in .. it will be a mixed up full house..
and theyd maybe get other asian actors since its joint participation? ok hows that?
like a foreigners in one house? speaking diff languages?
oh it wont ever be the same this way…"
"I enjoyed Full House back when it was airing… but the excitement has long-since faded. Maybe if Rain and SHG were both confirmed to be returning, I’d be more excited, but the fact that they’re only aiming for one of the stars rather than both makes me indifferent to the whole thing. Seriously, it’s not Full House without the original characters… it’s just a poor imitation or some wanna be knock-off. It would be better if they just completely remade it into a different drama altogether, or at best, a spin off with some of the side characters from the original. I doubt Rain or SHG will be willing to return anyway…"
"hasn’t this been discussed for so long? but i think if you have a season 2 you either have both original leads or just get a new cast. seriously it would be hard to see SHG or Rain starring in it with someone else. also if you change 1 lead you might as well get a new couple."
I personally am disappointed on the statement that they will cast either Rain or Song Hye Kyo. This has been the topic of many blog sites and forums all over the net because without one of the two stars, the entire series will never be the same again. How can the sequel possibly be called "FULL HOUSE SEASON 2", if Rain or Song Hye Kyo is our of the production anymore? That is definitely something they should consider. Plus, viewers all over Asia have anticipated this long before, and this anticipation as well as the disappointment is I think enough to flood the production company for the 2nd season with complaints, violent reactions, and even hate e-mails from different fans not just in Korea, but also in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, mainland China, Thailand, Vietnam and of course, the Philippines.
- Only one out of Song Hye-Gyo or Rain? (And it’ll be a miracle if one of them even agrees to the series.)
- It’s going to be Pan-Asian?? C’mon, Korean producer people, don’t you think that’s trying a little too hard?
- It sounds like they’re completely changing the story too; nothing like the sweet continuation of the first season that we, the fans, all wanted.
"I feel like this is just too little, too late. Whatever the sequel ends up being, “sweet continuation” or no, it’s really, really late to start introducing a sequel now and have it air five years after the original. Also, had this been the sequel that we all dreamed of four years ago, I think it would have generated slightly more interest (but not much, because I really think the timing of the sequel is really working against it) but now, we find out that it’s going to be a Pan-Asian production, completely disjointed from the first season, and include (most likely) none of the original actors, which lent the show half its spark? I don’t think so."
"Why am I not fully happy about this? I mean the reason I liked full house was bc of SHG and Rain but now it seems like either chance of them together again is slim, if existing at all."
"I think they should just cast different people. That way I won’t have to be like “AHHh SHG looks better with Rain!” or vice versa. Whatever as long as the story is not THE SAME and the acting is good I will give it a “Go Ahead”. If not…don’t waste money. :)"
If they wish to have the "star power" retained in the second season, they should at least strive hard to convince both Rain and Song Hye Kyo to participate and film the sequel no matter how busy and jam-packed their respective schedules are. With respect to the different commitments of both actors, I think it's just right and proper to wait and schedule the filming to a time that is convenient to both. They should atleast set or plan out a common time frame for the production. It is but fitting to say that even if it will take time to achieve this plan, as long as they can promise both stars in the second season, I think it'll be just fine and the fans will somehow understand.
"I totally agree. It’s just too little too late and they really should have milked this cow 4 years ago at the crest of the Korean wave and the peak of SHK and Rain’s popularity. But having said that, I would definitely still watch this if it came to fruition and especially if SHK does indeed make her return to the house."
"The original full house was so hugely successful that any sequel will find it hard to replicate or match its success. I really can’t see either song hye gyo or rain willing to revisit these roles..theyve both come so far ahead from full house. Totally agree – especially Rain who has so much on his plate with his international aspirations."
I think the entire idea of making the second season a Pan-Asian drama is great. but in order to carry this very big plan out, they have to choose the best people to work with the production, especially in the planning phase. I think it will not be easy, so they have to invest in people who has the experience, knowledge and dedication to make the series truly "Asian". Since other actors from different Asian countries will be participating in it, I am getting quite confused on the possible storyline of the sequel. Seeing Rain with another lead actress acting opposite him would not be very appealing, and at the same time, seeing Song Hye Kyo with another leading man instead of Rain is definitely something I would not even bother to imagine. Will they continue the plot? Or have a spin-off instead? Are they going to act as a married couple this time living in the same house? Or will fate tear them apart and give them tons of setbacks until such time they're back together in in each other's arms again. Otherwise, it's quite predictable.
"I hope season 2 isn’t going to pick up where the first one left off…cuz they’re only bringing either SHK or Rain back for season 2. Or maybe it will be a story about Rain or SHK’s cousin or friend? I get the feeling it might be like Goong 2- where it’s a different story, but with similar elements."
"This could get interesting or messy, if they bring other actors/actresses from other asian countries.. but guess we’ll have to wait and see.. :D"
"The fact remains that full house is associated with song and rain, thus casting people other than them will result in flop and big disappointment. Have you heard the Philippines buying the rights to do a remake to be acted by the Philippines current top superstars marian rivera and dingdong dantes? my, you should first watch these two Philippine actors they are both lovely beautiful and great actors. Just you watch and see how they give treatment to this comedy drama, it will be world-class since the network producing this is known for presenting award winning quality shows. This, I say again FH2 should star the original cast song and rain, other than them forget it."
Considering the fact that both Rain and Song Hye Kyo have been to a lot of projects after Full House, I think it would be quite impossible for both of them to re-do and to act out again their previous roles in the drama, because they have long been planning to take on different carreer paths already, and it might be heading to a completely opposite direction. Now that both have been busy with their respective projects, to find a common time will really be hard. Rain has been busy establishing his independent management company J Tune Entertainment in the past few years, declaring his independence from the singer/manager JYP or Park Jin Young who more or less created him during his early days as a singer, taking on Asia and Hollywood through filming both Speed Racer and Ninja Assassin, training rookie singers under the banner of his newly-found management company, releasing another highly-anticipated Asian album, conquering Asia for another Asian tour, launching his very own international website, and designing and conceptualizing his very own clothing line "Six to Five" in Korea where pretty actress Lee Da Hae (My Girl, Green Rose, East of Eden) is a model.
"and P.S.
about the other asian stars? No way. This is the only thing I’m so sure. Mixed foreigners? that’s not cool. That’s stupid. well, if they want it to be a “travel show” or “learning different languages lessons”, then go ahead. Might be fun. But don’t do that if you’re trying to make a Full House season 2."
"Full House season two sounds good to me as long as it is a success sequel to the “hallyu” drama. But that sounds highly unlikely since, more often than not, the movies with a number two added to it is a failure. Por ejemplo GOONG2, GOKUSEN2. . .you get the picture. ."
"But dramas like hana yori dango had a successful number two so I don’t know what to say but just sit back and wait. . ."
"Wish no more, 2 main casts of FH rejected acting in the sequel for various reasons.
Remember Goong 2 wasnt a continuity to Goong 1 quite a different story by itself, what then can we expect from Full House 2?"
Song Hye Kyo on the other hand has also been busy with different product endorsements, ads, and CFs. To name a few, there's popular Korean cosmetic line, Laniege and Levis, the all time favorite "jeans" brand for many people all over the world including myself. The beautiful actress have also graced the coverpages of a number of Korean magazines over the previous months such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, High Cut, and W. Months ago, i've come across a blog post with Song Hye Kyo posing for Ceci Magazine in China. With Song Hye Kyo's recent change of status from "Single" to "In a Relationship" with co-star Hyun Bin (Kim Su Na's leading man in My Name Is Kim Sam Soon) in the 2008 drama, "WORLD's WITHIN/THE WORLD THAT THEY LIVE IN", chances are becoming slim from the pretty actress to sign up for this project, since she has been planning to take on more serious roles in movies and dramas.
"don’t they learn from the Goong s which is not as successful as the first one because they cast different people and brings out different story instead of a continuance from the first one?? I guess they never learn from the past. That’s why all korean dramas season 2 always suck!It s way BETTER could be BEST to bring out the old cast, Song hye gyo and Rain!!"
"Maybe it’s best if they just like the original series bask in all its glory and not try to spoil it by having a sequel that will never be able to match the original. Let people have good memories of FH."
True enough, Goong S or PRINCE HOURSstarring Se7en, didn't match up to the expectations that was laid forth by viewers straight across Goong or PRINCESS HOURS. A lot of adaptations and remakes also follow the same fate coincidentally, whether it is a movie, a series or a musical; however, a few have also manage to stand out from the rest and make a name, even surpassing countless expectations from viewers. Recent updates on this news include the production company and KBS offering the role of Song Hye Kyo to the "Ratings Queen" Yoon Eun Hye (Princess Hours, Coffee Prince), but it was reportedly said that Ms. Yoon turned the oppurtunity down for various reasons, commitments, and other plans. Other sources of gossip also say that both Rain and Song Hye Kyo have indefinitely turned down the offers to do Full House 2 this time. And on top of that, it has been said as well, that the production team and KBS are planning to cast one of the F4 members for the sequel. And as I am looking at things, if this will be a Pan-Asian drama, it could be an F4 member from Korea "Boys Over Flowers", Taiwan "Meteor Garden", Japan "Hana Yori Dango" or even mainland China "Meteor Shower". Who knows right? We'll see about this pretty soon.
Not a lot of people know (or would even understand), but I am also a victim of drama obsession. I've been camping in dramalandia since I was 13 years old, and that's where you will most likely find me when I have nothing to do.
One of the symptoms of this disease is daydreaming about dramas everywhere whether you are at work, walking down the stairs, sleeping, even as you are walking...creepy isn't it? Hahaha!
I am also a big Asian music fan and I think Asian music rocks! I go back and forth from Cpop to Kpop and Jpop, so I may be different (and strange) compared to other people that you can find around. I am an elder sister , a dreamer , a believer , a gamer , wanderer , blogger , an optimist , an ultimate foodie and a, hands down, fangirl . I love reading books , writing , music , photography and traveling.
I am a nurse by profession who is also a copy editor and a freelance writer . I enjoy learning how to play musical instruments and learning various languages . I am crazy, loud, spontaneous, free-spirited and most of the time, a klutz.
Eren Asentista a.k.a. Eray, 23, female, from Dumaguete City, Philippines. My personality...it's complicated. :D Believe me, you wouldn't want to know who I am. Hahaha! XD

An Asian cruise. Templestay in Korea. An African safari adventure. Backpacking to Europe. Traveling through the European railways.
